Mold Damage
Eastern Shore, MD

As you read through all of the Diamond Restoration case studies you'll notice that almost always they are highly visible, traumatic, crashing events that leave homes and lifestyles charred, soaked or damaged. They appear quite horrible on the surface. But they are not the worst thing that can happen.

Mold is insidious and it is quiet and often lurks in places you just don't examine much within a home. Although mold can damage a structure or property its real danger is the people who are exposed to is spores that dwell in the structure.

Mysterious illnesses, persistent allergies and sometimes hospitalizations can be the reality. With still no definitive answers as to what is wrong.

In Eastern Shore, Maryland, it was a faulty radiator heater that was the culprit. It leaked, slowly and out of site, in a basement for an entire month. A basement is the perfect breeding ground for mold: dark, quiet, moist. The mold spread quickly and covered the entire basement and its contents. The surface mold even spread to the first floor also covering the structure and contents in a thin, wispy film.

By the time it was discovered it had spread to 2 floors covering almost 6,000 square feet. Diamond Restoration was brought in to remediate, just in time. We arrived on the scene with 3 people and over the next 2 weeks we removed the mold spores using a High Efficiency Particulate Air vacuum. Then we mechanically sanded all wood surfaces removing any trace mold that might spawn again. DRI was able to remove and contain the mold in time. But the job was not finished.

Containing and removing mold contaminants is a temporary fix if you do not completely dry the structure. Mold is a tough organism that is bent on survival. After vacuuming and sanding the drying process must begin. When DRI dries a mold site we use our Thermal Drying Process to do the job and we achieve a constant indoor air temperature of 125º to do this. Mold spores die at 110º. This extra step is the key to prevent any recurrence.
